Purpose of This Forum

Hello All, In a recent email, Abhijit asked an interesting question -- what is the purpose of this forum? Murray gave an accurate reponse, but I would like to elaborate further. The purpose of this forum - the Global Forum on NGO Governance - is for people to come together from around the world to ask questions and share ideas about NGO governance and NGO boards. As most of you know, there is not one model for how boards should function, and not one way to structure a board. But we can learn from each other -- asking questions, offering ideas, sharing stories. This online forum gives us an opportunity to communicate and learn from each other across cultures and country boundaries, and can hopefully broaden our perspectives. Right now, we have about 350 members subscribed to the Global Forum representing many different countries around the world. We have many more visitors to the site - in May alone we had 1,031 visitors from 98 different countries! So if you have questions, perspectives, or ideas that you want to share related to NGO boards and NGO governance, this is the forum for you! Fund raising is an appropriate topic for this forum IF we are talking about the board's role and responsibilities as they relate to fund raising. If you want to know more about fund raising in general, I suggest to you to contact organizations that specifically focus on fund raising, such as Resource Alliance at www.resource-alliance.org) or the Association of Fund Raising Professionals at www.afpnet.org. To learn more about this forum, please visit the Global Forum on NGO Governance web site at www.ngoboards.org. You can learn more about the purpose of this community on the About page, and you can find a lot of free e-books, articles, and other materials in the Resource section of the site. Thanks for your interest and participation! Kathy Hedge, BoardSource |
